Near the mouth of Chichester Harbour, the twin villages of East and West Wittering are home to stretches of unspoilt coastline. The golden sandy beach of West Wittering is a summertime hot spot, hugely popular with day trippers and holidaymakers keen to enjoy the wide sands and shallow waters (pre-booking car parking is encouraged especially during summer months and sunny weekends in Spring and Autumn).

West Wittering Beach is famous for long stretches of soft sand. The water is shallow, which makes it perfect for families, but water sports fans won't be disappointed - West Wittering is a haven for surfers of all kinds, and a great location for paddleboarding, kayaking and more.

How do I book parking for West Wittering Beach?

Pre-booking parking at West Wittering Beach is encouraged (but not essential). You can book your parking space here. If the car park is sold out or full, there is no alternative parking nearby and you are kindly asked not to try to park in the vicinity as the area is residential and emergency vehicle access must be maintained. You can also reach West Wittering Beach by bicycle or on foot. The Salterns Way cycle path leads you directly to the beach from Chichester City Centre.

Is West Wittering Beach dog-friendly?

From the 1st of May to the 30th of September, dogs are excluded from the main swimming beach between groynes numbered 14a to 18, which broadly corresponds to the area in front of the line of beach huts. Dogs are welcome on the whole beach during the rest of the year.

Can I take part in water sports at West Wittering Beach?

Equipment hire, tuition and rescue service is available from 2XS, an operator located at the beach. From March to October, windsurfing from the beach is restricted to members of the West Wittering Windsurf Club only. Kitesurfing is restricted to WWWC members throughout the year.

Where can I walk from West Wittering Beach?

Enjoy a walk along the beach as far as the dunes of East Head, managed by National Trust. You can also walk East to East Wittering Beach where you'll find a thriving high street with great places to shop, eat and drink.
